Every Wednesday from 7.30pm: AFROSPACE INTERCHANGE

A collective of exceptional Naarm musicians, formed to explore, rejoice and champion the rich tradition of South African jazz from its roots in the struggle for freedom to its current sounds under the guidance of the “Born Free” generation. Their music invokes a spiritual moment that communicates directly with the soul and rhythms of all our ancestors. The beating heart of the the band is 78 year old township drum legend and originator Brian Abrahams (collaborator of Sarah Vaughan, Archie Shepp, Abdullah Ibrahim and more) leading the crew on a journey of creation; something that’s part celebration, part history lesson, and pure magic.

Your favourite musicians’ favourite musician, the self-taught, prodigious and naively fearless Laneous plays every Thursday at Old Plates.   The man has many a musical finger in many a musical pie and continually draws upon his vast company of euphonic conspirators to curate a unique musical experience each week.  From re-imagined originals to left-of-centre covers to fully-improvsed anthems, they mine the ... of Neo-soul and jazz interwoven with a bunch of weird shit 

with a ine-up that is always world-class.

Naarm-based but deeply rooted in West Africa, this ensemble take you on a musical journey through highlife and manding grooves inspired by ancient rituals and ancestral values. Weaving traditional and contemporary music, blending melodic sounds of the kora with the raw, rhythmic beat of the drums, the band uses the music to translate stories of everyday life, love, wisdom and peace, reminding us of the importance of connection and celebrating who we are as a rich and diverse Australian community.
